Sustainable agriculture to preserve the environment

Les Vignerons de la Noelle are committed to the "fight for sustainable agriculture" with the objective of preserving the environment. The principle is to define more precisely the type, date , frequency and quantity of phytosanitary products to be applied so that maximum efficiency can be obtained using the least amount of products.
The fight against the grape-worm is a perfect illustration. Butterflies mate in the vineyard. Once the female butterfly is impregnated, she lays her eggs which later become larva that destroy the grapes. Up until the present, the butterflies were killed with a chemical substance in order to stop them from laying their destructive offspring.
Today, Les Vignerons de la Noelle is using a new technique called "sexual confusion". The male butterfly is aware of the female because of the sexual pheromones she produces during the mating season. Containers placed regularly in the rows of vines diffuse the pheromones over all the parcel. The effect is to make the female very hard to locate. There are no fertilisations and therefore no larva. The harvest is preserved without the use of any toxic products.
