GIS (Geographical Information System)

A field map and characteristics of a parcel
The GIS (Geographical Information System) enables all the information regarding the vineyard to be gathered together (600 hectares, 150 winegrowers) in a computer database.
In this way, all the elements are available to monitor the vine with an incomparable precision: field map, type of soil/sub-soil, sun exposure, grape variety, vine age, plantation density, rootstock, degree and date of maturity for the previous years, background of the phytosanitary treatments, type of cutting, yield, etc.

A better knowledge of the vine and its cycle can improve the quality of the harvests and, thus, the quality of the wine. In addition, it makes the "fight for sustainable agriculture" an important part of the decision to respect and preserve the environment.
Les Vignerons de la Noelle implemented the G.I.S. in 1997. The association is the leader for initiating such a method in the Loire.
